2012 Hmong International New Year Celebration Begins in Fresno, California

Fresno, California -- The annual Hmong International New Year celebration begins December 26, 2011 thru January 1, 2012 at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds. Guests from afar and near will be in our midst. General admission is $3. A reception will be held on December 24, 2011 from 6:00 pm - midnight at the Fairgrounds to welcome guests and dignitaries.

The Hmong International New Year celebration is opened to anyone of any age and remains one of Fresno's most anticipated event and biggest attendance draw. Since coming to the Central Valley in the late 1970's, the Celebration has been a part of Fresno's main traditions. Approximately 100,000 people will have participated in this celebration by the week's end. There will be Hmong arts and crafts and non-stop entertainment with the biggest attraction being "pov pob," a ball tossing game that one could potentially win a partner for life.

Come one, come all -- for the ethnic food, free entertainment, and proud display of Hmong culture and friendship. Partake in the pov pob game. Who knows, you might find your life partner!

In memory of General Vang Pao, the Big Fresno Fairgrounds, in collaboration with Hmong International New Year Foundation, Inc., will erect a statue of the late Hmong Leader overlooking his military base, Long Cheng. The unveiling of this memorial will be at the Pavilion within the Fairgrounds on December 27, 2011.

Mr. Hmong HmSA Crowning at Fairground

Hmong International New Year Foundation donates fairground facility

Fresno, CA -- On Sunday December 19th, 2010, the Mr. Hmong competition hosted by the Hmong Student Association (HmSA) of California State University of Fresno was unexpectedly canceled due to a false fire alarm. With Five gentleman left in the competition and disappointed audiences, HmSA needed a facility to complete the competition.

To lend a helping hand, Hmong International New Year Foundation, Inc. donated its fairground facility to HmSA.

The last round and the crowning of Mr. Hmong will take place at the following date and time:

The Mr. Hmong competition is a charity event hosted by HmSA to raise funds for the annual educational conference hosted by the group for high school students.

The Hmong Student Association (HmSA) of California State University of Fresno is one of the largest most active Hmong American organizations since it was founded in 1984. One of the purposes of the club is to allow students of diverse backgrounds to learn and teach Hmong American culture to the community.

Hmong Celebrates International New Year in Fresno

Fresno, CA -- Once again, the Hmong people will begin their annual new year celebration in the City of Fresno at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds starting December 26, 2010 thru January 1, 2011. Hosted by Hmong International New Year, Inc., this will be the fourteenth year that the celebration has taken place in Fresno, California.

The grand opening of the Celebration will begin on December 26, 2010. It is then that tens of thousands of people from all over the world will come together to the Fairgrounds and partake in the "Pov Pob" game. "Pov Pob" is an "ice breaker" game for eligible bachelors and bachelorettes to meet one another. There will also be entertainments such as talent shows, pageantry, dance contests, and a singing competitions for all to enjoy. In addition, vendors will come from all over the country and from abroad to sell arts, crafts and ethnic foods.

The Celebration is a family event and is open to all persons of any age. General admission to the event will be $3 per person and children under 6 going in free with accompanying adults.
