Inspired to be Miss Hmong International:

2011 Contestant Reflections

 Mai Ntxawm Lauj

All Miss Hmong and contestants from Hmong International New Year inspired me to participate because they are such wonderful role models to the Hmong community.

The previous Miss Hmong International have set very good examples and have shown positive changes to the Hmong community. They have become good role models and inspired me to challenge myself with this competition. I want to experience this challenge and hope to contribute back to the community as much as I can.

My parents believe I can achieve this and I personally have a prosperous vision for the Hmong community. And, by becoming Miss Hmong International I will gain better recognition.

What inspired to become a contestant is the fact that someone like Miss Hmong International can have an impact on an individual or a community. To be able to serve the Hmong community is a wonderful asset I can bring with me in the future. We must value every human being and assist those that are in need.

Seeing previous Miss Hmong International winners has inspired me to become a contestant so that I can give back to the community as they did, and be a good role model to future generations.

 Maivlam Yaj

My inspiration stems from working with the Hmong community for the past four years in college. From my experience of working with youths and my peers, I see and feel that there needs to be a role model who can identify and relate with the younger generation. My passion falls in line of:

  • retention in higher education
  • public policies within health
  • immigration that are directed towards the Hmong and Southeast Asian community
  • community organizing/empowerment
Having the privilege to be a contestant in the Miss Hmong International Pageant will open many doors to my dream of helping the Hmong community.

I really want to advocate the importance of Hmong unity to the public this year and be a role model for the community.

I am happy to be Hmong, to be born to the Hmong family. After the lost of land and leaving Laos, this place is a place to reunite with relatives. As the title holder of Miss Hmong France, it is my duty to compete for miss Hmong International 2011.
